Musical Director Vacancy (job-share)

We are recruiting a new Musical Director

Ideally, the job will be shared with our current MD, Janet Wood – each leading our Thursday sessions in ‘blocks’, rather than alternate weeks, and liaising with each other over repertoire, who will lead us at individual gigs/performances, and so on. Practical issues for running the choir are handled by a committee plus individual choir members.

We sing a capella, usually in four-part harmonies. We do not hold auditions for new members, and learn by ear rather than from written music. We also encourage members to use sound files to practise in between sessions.

We meet on Thursday evenings, 19.30-21.30, at Old Sharrow Junior School near Sheffield city centre, with about 12 sessions in each of the three terms. So the job would involve about 6 sessions per term if shared with Janet. We pay per hour, at Musicians Union rates, including preparation time, plus travel costs.

If you have some experience of leading a community choir, share our values, and live in or relatively near Sheffield, we would very much like to hear from you by 22nd November 2021. Our aim is to have our new MD in place by January 2022.

You’ll find lots of background information about the choir on this website. For full details about the post please download the advert and Job Description and Person Specification below. The Values and Vision document is a graphic encapsulating what’s important to us as a choir.
